Job Description

  • Develop and continuously improve  industry systems and  framework to identify, understand and prevent financial fraud incidences and trends
  • Evaluate the fraud exposure of financial frauds  and advise on exposure to risk of loss
  • Develop fraud policy guidelines for the financial industry
  • Provide expert direction and insights for effective  antifraud and financial crime programmes and controls
  • Investigate banks’ financial records and trace losses in cases of bank fraud
  • Define best practices to guard against and reduce fraud and financial crime  in banking industry
  • Ensure  compliance with anti fraud and financial crime  regulatory directives and guidelines
  • Liaise with the financial services industry and industry groups to establish anti fraud and financial crime structures and knowledge sharing on laws, regulation and trends in fraud and financial crime identification, prevention and management
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive catalogue of fraud and financial crime  incidences and risks
  • Ensure that reports of investigations conducted by banks sent to the CBN are properly documented and reviewed as basis for preventive regulatory guidance and direction
  • Participate in  financial services industry and industry groups promote anti fraud and financial crime structures and knowledge sharing to ensure a more rigorous fraud detection and prevention regime

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Deep knowledge of end to end operations of financial institutions, business lines and enterprise risk management processes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial crime modus operandi, related law and regulations
  • Prior experience in an internal audit or compliance and controls function
  • Knowledge of financial surveillance systems
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial reports
  • Deep knowledge of risk factors associated with various securities for the purpose of assessing potential for fraudulent activities
  • Strong quantitative skills to design and execute fraud related models and scenario tests
  • Experience with advanced analytics (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive modelling) and business approaches related to fraud detection

  • A first degree/HND in Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Economics, Business Administration, Information Systems, Criminology and related disciplines
  • A post graduate degree in a business field is an added advantage
  • Membership of the following professional bodies is an added advantage: Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE)
    Possession of the following certifications is an added advantage: Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP); Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE); Certified Forensic Accountant(Cr.FA); Certified Forensic Financial Analyst(CFFA); Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP); CRISC - Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control
    • Assistant Director: Minimum of 15 years relevant experience in Financial Investigation, Audit, Internal Control, or Risk Management. At least 3  years must have been spent in a senior management position
    • Senior Manager: Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in Financial Investigation, Audit, Internal Control, or Risk Management. At least 3  years must have been spent in a management position
    • Manager: Minimum of 6 years relevant experience in Financial Investigation, Audit, Internal Control, or Risk Management.
