Title: GAR Manager Africa
Level: 4
Reports to: GAR Director Africa
Context/Scope:
Diageo is the world’s leading premium drinks.
In support of Diageo’s goals, Global Audit & Risk (GAR)
has a number of priorities:
§ Providing excellent
quality independent assurance and business insights to the Diageo Executive and
Audit Committee on the control and compliance environment across Diageo
§ Ensuring Diageo has
an effective approach to risk management and partnering with the business to
identify and navigate risks
§ Working with the
business to embed governance and control standards in the fabric of Diageo
Dimensions:
a) Financial
This role has no specific financial responsibilities;
however, the individual will be expected to work closely with other Diageo
Finance teams across the world.
b) Market Complexity
GAR is based in a number of locations and is responsible for
providing a global service to all of Diageo’s business units, and with joint
ventures, distributors and third party partners.
The role location is generally flexible (the preferred
location for the Africa team is either Lagos or Nairobi); significant travel
will be required to fulfil the role requirements - up to 70%.
c) Leadership Responsibilities
Should embody the Diageo leadership capabilities.
Purpose of Role
The primary focus is to deliver quality assurance across
Diageo and risk management and business partnering within Diageo Africa. However, the GAR audit team also works as a
pool of resource and team members will work across the diverse world of Diageo.
Top 3-5 Accountabilities
Lead and take part in audits across Diageo and ensure that
own and team’s audit work is of excellent quality, following GAR’s methodology
and that all reports are accurate, clearly written and issued on time. Engage appropriately with stakeholders on
audits.
Be a primary GAR business partner for Diageo Africa. This includes providing the maximum support
to embedding strong governance and control standards in the business, while
maintaining appropriate independence.
Lead and take part in other initiatives across Diageo
Africa, particularly key business changes
Undertake other work as agreed in support of the GAR global
agenda
Qualifications and Experience Required
Minimum 5 years’ experience, including in a multinational
(ideally multicultural/multilingual) corporate environment, with exposure to
some of the following areas:
· Internal /
external audit with detailed understanding of potential risks and controls
· Risk
management
· Compliance
or SOX experience (including CARM programme within Diageo or other similar
programmes outside of Diageo)
· Knowledge of
business environment in Africa
Qualified Accountant and/or MBA, or professional
qualification or equivalent experience in one of the above.
Relationship management and business partnering skills –with
wide number stakeholders, including the ability to influence strategic
decisions across the business.
Proven ability to move between ‘big picture’ and detail.
Positively motivated to make a difference within and outside
of own area.
Barriers to Success in Role
Must be prepared to work in changing teams and locations.
Inauthenticity or poor communication skills, including
difficulty in analysing detail or tell the ‘big story’ or dealing with
different levels of management
Inability to appropriately prioritise and deliver, or manage
key stakeholders
